A's aim for third straight win over struggling Sox

Baseball Betting Lines

06/06/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Struggling lefty Joe Kennedy looks for his first win since May 10 when the Oakland Athletics host the Boston Red Sox in the third test of a four-game series tonight at McAfee Coliseum.

Kennedy, who was 4-1 with a 2.31 earned run average as a full-time reliever last season, hasn't won since tossing six innings of four-hit, three-run ball to defeat Kansas City. Since then, he's 0-2 with a pair of no decisions and has seen his earned run average rise from 2.83 to 3.30.

The 28-year-old Californian got a tough-luck no decision in his last start, as he scattered six hits and allowing one run in eight innings of the Athletics' 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Friday.

Lifetime against the Red Sox, Kennedy is 1-2 with a 4.59 ERA in 12 appearances, including eight starts.

Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield goes for Boston and will seek his 10th career win against Oakland. The 40-year-old is 9-4 with a 4.03 ERA in 34 appearances -- 23 starts -- versus the A's.

Wakefield has lost three of his last four starts, including a 9-5 verdict to the New York Yankees on Friday in which he surrendered five hits and eight runs in 3 2/3 innings.

His ERA has risen from 1.79 after his first seven starts to its current mark of 4.24.

On Tuesday, Lenny DiNardo combined with four other pitchers in a three-hit shutout as the Athletics downed the Red Sox, 2-0.

DiNardo (2-2) gave up two hits and six walks in six innings of work, while Eric Chavez hit a solo home run for the Athletics, who have won four straight.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (7-4) dropped his second straight start as he was charged with two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts

Julio Lugo, David Ortiz and Mike Lowell each had a hit for the Red Sox, who have now lost a season-high three straight and five of six overall.

Oakland split a two-game series in Beantown earlier this year and is 10-4 against Boston since the start of last season. The Red Sox have also lost eight of their last 11 in Oakland.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
