03/19/2010 - Indian Wells, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rafael Nadal advanced through to the semifinals at the $4.5 million BNP Paribas Open Thursday with a straight-set win.

The third-seeded Spaniard and former world No. 1 outlasted the 19th seed Czech Tomas Berdych 6-4, 7-6 (6-4) in 2 hours, 11 minutes here on the hardcourts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Nadal, who won 73 percent of his first serves, beat Andy Murray in last year's Indian Wells finale and also titled here in 2007.

Day 8's other quarterfinal saw Nadal's next opponent 20th-seeded Croat Ivan Ljubicic overcome 21st-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The former top-five star Ljubicic toppled world No. 2 Serbian star Novak Djokovic here on Wednesday.

Ljubicic popped 11 aces on his way to topping the gritty Monaco in 1 hour, 47 minutes. The big Croat also tallied four service breaks, compared to only one for the Argentine loser.

The veteran Ljubicic, who will turn 31 on Friday, will appear in his first semifinal of the year.

The quarterfinals will conclude here on Friday, when a fourth-seeded Murray meets sixth-seeded Robin Soderling and seventh-seeded Andy Roddick takes on 18th-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo. The 2009 Indian Wells runner-up Murray was this year's Aussie Open runner-up to the great Roger Federer; Soderling was last year's French Open runner-up to Federer; and the former world No. 1 Roddick was last year's Wimbledon runner-up to Federer.

This week's winner will collect $605,500.
