Two straight victories have enabled the Blazers to move to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in league play. On Saturday, UAB put forth a strong effort on the road against Tulane and came away with a 67-60 triumph.
Memphis enters this game on a major roll, as it has won five straight games to improve to 13-3, including a perfect 3-0 mark against conference opponents. All five wins during the current streak have come by double figures, including a 75-62 decision over Southern Miss on Saturday. Expect the Tigers to play with plenty of confidence tonight, as they have won all nine of their home games.
Memphis owns a 22-10 lead in the all-time series with UAB, and the Tigers won two of the three meetings last season.
Paul Delaney III continues to lead UAB in scoring with 17.6 ppg, and he is also tops with 97 assists and 33 steals. Wen Mukubu adds 13.9 ppg to the mix on the strength of his 48 percent shooting from three-point range, and Lawrence Kinnard is pitching in 12.8 ppg on 46.8 percent accuracy from behind the arc. UAB is averaging 68.9 ppg, slightly higher than the 65.9 ppg that the team is surrendering. Against Tulane on Saturday, Kinnard scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down eight rebounds to pace the Blazers in their win. Delaney III scored 21 points and added nine assists, as UAB benefited tremendously from a 22-12 edge in points from the foul line. Amazingly, the Blazers won the game despite shooting just 34.5 percent from the field.
Memphis is averaging 81.8 ppg this season while limiting opponents to 65.6 ppg on 38.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Tigers are also outrebounding foes by 6.6 rpg. Chris Douglas-Roberts continues to lead Memphis in scoring with 15.7 ppg, and he is shooting a stellar 56.4 percent from the field. Jeremy Hunt adds 13.4 ppg to the lineup, and Robert Dozier is contributing 11.3 ppg. Against Southern Miss on Saturday, Douglas-Roberts tallied 23 points on the strength of 14-of-17 shooting from the foul line. Dorsey pitched in 14 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks, while Dozier contributed 11 points. The Tigers limited the Golden Eagles to 35.4 percent shooting from the field and also earned a 33-23 edge in points from the foul line.
